Character Interview - Helgi, the Water Spirit

August 15, 2016 Author's Note: I once heard that PL Travers, author of the Mary Poppins books became incensed when someone asked her how she thought of Mary Poppins. She replied that she didn't create Mary Poppins, but that Mary Poppins found her.  My characters often take charge of the story. It's all a part of the magic of writing fiction. Interviewing your characters is a great way to get to know them as a writer.  Author Jan and Character Helgi discuss her character's role in 'Julu' below: Jan: Helgi, you're one of the most intriguing characters I've met so far. An Interview with Jack Lemoine

Author's Notes: Jack is eleven years old, and is a major character in the Julu series. A prophecy exists stating Jack will be the one to save Jirvania. Until a few short months ago, Jack lived a 'normal' life with his family on Mason's Island, Mystic Connecticut - until finding an opal dragon egg turned his life upside down... Jan: The first thing I'd like to say is thank you. Thank you for saving Jirvania. Jack: Uh, that's a little premature. I haven't saved anything yet. Jan: I believe in you. Welcome to The Julu Series

Welcome to the Julu series blog. I will be posting information on Author Signing events, Giveaways, personal thoughts and reflections, along with "Character Interviews' and information about 'Jirvania' ~ Book Two in the Julu series. Writing and publishing "Julu" has been a fantastic experience. I woke in the middle of the night a few years ago, with the words, "Julu ~ write her story" running through my head. I got up, wrote down the name and went back to sleep. In the morning, I remember asking myself, "Who is Julu?" I've always loved to write, so I sat down a few days later and began to outline some ideas that came into my head. Now, anyone who's ever written a novel knows, characters have this remarkable way of taking over a story and running with it, and that's exactly what the early Julu characters did. When I'm writing chapters in the Julu series, it's more like watching the scenes unfold and writing down
